See information below about our summer 2017 appraiser program.  The summer 2017 class is our new online course.  We will be accepting applications for acceptance into this pilot program beginning July 10.  You will be notified of acceptance into this pilot program. However, not everyone who applies to this first class will be accepted for this pilot program.  We are limiting the number of participants for this first program.

If you are accepted into this pilot program (Cost $295), you may begin the online course on Friday, July 21 6 am eastern time and the course must be completed by 11:59 pm pacific time, Monday, July 31. 

You will need to take the pre-qualification quiz, and then listen to the videos.   Applications for this session will open on July 10.  However, since this new online class is a pilot program not everyone who applies for the program will be accepted.

As part of the course work for your certification, you will also need to submit a completed sample appraisal report for review before the session closes at 11:59 pm on Monday, July 31. You will be given instructions on how to use the appraisal report computer program to complete the sample appraisal report that needs to be submitted to the Certified Appraisers Guild before you are certified.

You should allot approximately 3 to 4 evenings to listen to the videos. You can also listen to all the videos all at once if you prefer. You do not need to wait until Monday, July 31 to complete the course.

When is the course?

Yes, in addition to taking the pre-qualifications quiz you are also required to listen to short easy-to-follow video lessons on appraisal principles.

General information about appraising that you would have acquired through your personal and business experiences based on common sense. Those who should definitely consider the pre-qualification quiz path to obtain your appraiser certification are collectors, auctioneers, estate sale operators, antique shop workers, equipment dealers, farm implement dealers, antique mall workers, those who attend auctions, and consignment shop owners. Whatever your experiences, you can take the pre-qualification quiz and if you do not achieve 70% after two attempts, your entire $295 will be refunded. There is no risk for you to take the quiz.

What does the pre-qualification quiz cover?

What should I study before taking the pre-qualification quiz?

Students do not need to do any preparation before the
pre-qualification quiz. There are no text books or reference books that need to be read in order to pass the pre-qualification quiz.

The course is designed to give new appraisers a quick start in developing their own personalized appraisal business.

I am new to appraising. Can I take the pre-qualifications quiz and still learn the appraising profession?

I only want to appraise in one area. Do I have to learn about the other areas? For example, I am interested in appraising heavy equipment or farm equipment, do I have to spend time learning antiques?

No, the course is set up to teach you how to do appraisal research and to find values in the field you are interested in.

In addition, the course will teach the requirements for appraising for estates, bank collateral, charitable donations, gifts, etc.  The course will teach you how and when to use the accepted valuation methods of fair market value, liquidation value, in-plant valuation, reproduction cost, assessed value and the two types of replacement cost.  The course will also teach a handy way to help identify adjustments to make to the valuation on any item appraised.

You will only need very basic computer skills and internet access.

I am not comfortable using a computer, is this online course right for me?

I am a new auctioneer. Will this course teach me the values of all items that are normally sold at auction?

At the end of this course you will not know the value of everything sold at auction. No course can do that for every item sold at every auction in every location. You will learn how to research values and create a competent professional appraisal report meeting the requirements for the courts, banks, lawyers, accountants, tax authorities, and insurance.

I am interested in antiques. Is this a comprehensive course in every type of antique and collectible?

Is there an appraisal report computer program included in my membership after I complete the course?

Yes, included in your membership after completing the course is a computer appraisal report writing program that will walk you through creating a professional appraisal report to turn into clients. The computer program is free to use for all members of the Certified Appraisers Guild. The video instructor will walk you through creating your own appraisal report together. This will simplify the process and give you a quick start to creating your own professional appraisals reports for your clients and other professionals.

You will also be approved to use the Certified Appraisers Guild logo on your website or any advertising, be listed in the online appraiser search, be listed in the online appraiser verification search used by potential clients, attorneys, judges, accountants, government officials and courts to verify your appraiser certification.  You will receive advertising materials to use with your appraisal business and a sample prospect letter to use to contact potential clients.

Upon completion of the pre-qualification quiz and the instructional videos, you will be a certified personal property appraiser and receive the professional designation of CAGA.

Your appraiser certification is renewable each January.  The 2017 membership is included in your tuition upon completion of the course.  The annual appraiser certification fee is $100.  Access to the appraisal report computer program is free for members of the Certified Appraisers Guild.

Will I be certified after completing the course?

Does the appraisal report program work on Apple and PC computers?

For Apple users we are developing a cloud based report writing program that will create pdf reports that are downloaded to your apple computer. There is a PC based program that creates reports on your own computer in windows (not in the cloud) and has additional features that the apple cloud based program does not. With either program, you will be able to create professional appraisal reports.

The next pre-qualification quiz +Plus course will be offered in the winter/spring of 2018 - exact dates yet to be determined.

When will the next course be after July 2017?

Is there a continuing education requirement?

As long as a member stays active, no continuing education courses are required.

If you are accepted into the program:

1.  You can take the pre-qualification quiz and if you do not achieve 70% after two attempts, your entire $295 will be refunded. There is no risk for you to take the quiz.

2.  Once you begin the video lessons, no refunds will be issued.

3.  No refunds will be issued if the course is not completed by 11:59 pm pacific time, Monday, July 31.
